Alessandro Pessoli (Cervia, Ravenna, 1963) currently resides in Los Angeles since 2010. After studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, he moved to Milan in 1993. He is known for his paintings, drawings, sculptures, and terracotta works, which often evoke figures with melancholic expressions, placed in undefined spaces, imbued with dreamlike narration. His work is rich in references to art history, cinema, and theater, but also abounds with details drawn from pop culture, such as comics and illustrations. Some of his solo exhibitions include Testa Cristiana at the Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio in Milan in 2021; CITY OF GOD at Palazzo Vizzani in Bologna in 2021; The Neighbors at MAN in Nuoro in 2016; and New Work at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 2012. He has participated in international exhibitions and festivals, including the 16th Quadriennale, Rome (2020); Triennale, Milan (2015); 53rd Biennale di Venezia (2009); Palazzo Grassi, Venice (2009). His works are in the collections of many museums, including MoMA in New York; the Hammer Museum and MOCA in Los Angeles; MAXXI Museum in Rome; MIC Museo della Ceramica in Faenza; and Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia.
