Artists Stella Scala and Simeone Crispino, who have worked together as Vedovamazzei since 1991, live in Milan. Their works, often characterized by a humorous tone, make use of a wide range of media including sculpture, painting, installation, and photography, and explore the combination and disjunction of images, objects, and texts to examine the relationship between desire and affection. Vedovamazzei has presented solo exhibitions at Italian and international galleries and institutions. In 2005 the Madre Museum in Naples hosted their first retrospective. In 2012 they opened the exhibition No necesita suerte at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid. In 2020 their work After Love, 2003/2020 was installed in the Alighiero Boetti Piazza at the MAXXI Museum in Rome. Among the group exhibitions they take part in are The Street, where the world is made, Museo MAXXI, Rome (2018); Liberi tutti! Arte e società in Italia 1989/2001, Museo Ettore Fico, Turin (2015); Ironia Domestica, MUSEION, Bolzano (2007); Campo 95, Corderie dell'Arsenale, Venice (1995).
